Texas - Day 3, Part 1

I have more than a normal amount of photos from day 3 on our Texas vacation so I'm going to split it up into two parts with part 1 being the morning and two being the afternoon.

We woke up slightly earlier on Saturday morning so we could squeeze in everything we wanted to do.  First thing was go drive to San Antonio and visit Russ' great Aunt, Boots.  Her husband, who is no longer living, was a Colonel in the Air Force so hearing some of their stories was wonderful.  Boots is almost 96 years old but boy you wouldn't guess it!  When we first arrived she took us (Nicole and PJ also joined us in visiting her) on a tour of the facility and then up to her apartment.  It was amazing seeing how well and easily she moved around and how well she remembered stories from her life - it was truly inspiring! I was so happy to have the opportunity to meet her and I'm so glad Nicole and PJ were so accommodating in allowing us to fit that in as part of our trip!

Seeing Boots' face light up when she saw Russ made my day - she was so happy to see him and kept telling us how thankful she was we stopped by and how happy (and young!) young people made her feel.

After many hugs and goodbyes with Boots, we went and strolled around at the Riverwalk for a little while.  I can see how this place would be so much fun in warmer weather or all decorated at Christmas time.  We were there in time for a pre-lunch snack so we found a table and enjoyed some drinks and delicious chips and queso.

We quickly made friends with one particular duck who we made the mistake of feeding once.  After that one time, he wouldn't leave us alone and went between Nicole and I "biting" our legs telling us to feed him!  He was a persistent fella.

Part 2 to come, where we (ok, Nicole and Dad) build a cat castle).  Yes, a cat castle!

I love spending time with older relatives and so sweet of y'all to make time during your short trip to visit with Boots.

I love the Riverwalk in San Antonio and the ducks are very persistent because tourists feed them all the time.

I would've freaked out if I saw that duck walking towards me. AND it "bit" you?!?! HECK NO.
